Inspiration for this collection came from an unlikely source—my old summer job at a disposal company. At this job I would work for eight hours each day, repeating the same motions over and over, slowly cleaning and grinding the rust from dumpster after dumpster. Although it was not my ideal job, I really enjoyed how the repetitive nature of those simple tasks gave me a chance to sit and reflect on all the different aspects of my life. Later down the line, I noticed that when working on garments that required me to perform the same task over and over, I was again given the opportunity for self-reflection. These meditative, repetitive tasks helped create a mindfulness to focus deeply on the project at hand, to slow down, relax, and unplug from concerns. In fashion today we place such an emphasis on moving forward faster and faster. For my collection I intentionally slowed the process down and fully embraced the long hours of hand work in the creation of each piece.
